...Jimi closed down Woodstock in a ferocious way! The DVD of that performance is something great I think!

Haha! I know that the date was Aug 18 but yesterday was Monday which was the day that Hendrix 'closed' Woodstock in `69! To me, that`s the significance because, as the 'headliner' for Woodstock, he was scheduled to 'close' the festival Sunday night but with all the delays he wasn`t able to perform until Monday morning at 8:30 am. Wish I could`ve been there but am so glad that I have the DVD! He was an amazing person!Tone seaker wrote:your four days late it was Aug 18,1969. It was a great show though

I consider his version of 'Izabella' at Woodstock, to be amongst his best ever solo's. I just love the feel, time and vibe of it. Jimi really bent the hell oot of the strings on that solo. 'WAILING' comes to mind.

aye...I love the funky vibe Jimi had going on on Isabella and some of his later stuff like Dolly Dagger, Ezy Ryder and some of the other tunes that came out on 'War Heroes' and "Cry of Love'. I love the stuff he played live from late '68 onwards. Funny how a lot of staples in his live sets are songs the casual Hendrix fans have never even heard since they get zero airplay. Tax free on Winterland, Hear My Train - Atlanta '70, Drivin South - Paris '68, Dolly Dagger - Isle of Wight '70, Isabella - Woodstock, I don't live today - San Diego '69 or Berkeley (both great), Stone Free - Royal Albert Hall '68. So sad that so many only know a few of his studio songs that get on the radio now and again. The real magic for me has always been his live stuff. I'd have likely been in the same boat until one day I happened to come across the Stages box set sometime back in the early 90's. That really opened me up to his live stuff.

I agree with you on that BAinFL
Hes live stuff is like no one else, hes studio stuff is great but i always find myself listening to hes live stuff.. at home, in car everywhere
What amaze me with the life stuff is.. the song are never the same, i could probably listen to same song ie machine gun from BOG and then from isle of weight and then from woddstock and i still want more.
The War Heroes album is one of a kind.
I am not really old to hendrix, probably like 7 years i know this music.
First time it was the WoodStock video on youtube/google video. that really got me hooked up, i listenend to this video day after day lol, I started looking for more of the live stuff right from the begin, Live in Sweden was probably the second video i seen from him and then many others
Izabella from WoodStock, i agree it has some crazy tone on the solo. Or the Hey Joe's solo from woodstock am loving it soo much espcially the part with the wah.

If you like his live stuff, there's some good shows to check out on Bill Graham's site:
