this has been discussed here to great length, but to summarize, the Fuzz RM tells people Jimi used for BOG is his Axis Fuzz. its a cool design and an interesting sound, many people who have one like it very much. BUT, it seems that the original octavia might actually be closer to what Jimi actually had as his BOG fuzz, minus the octave up circuit which is just a small transformer and diodes (an old ham radio trick that was around forever before RM used it). the octavia design up till that point also closely resembles a Helios console module for which there are many schematics on the web, and RM worked on these and I think he also knew the people who designed them.

so to answer your question, yes and no. there is the Axis Fuzz which seems to do a good job, and there are probably a multitude of Fuzzes that will be suggested to you here that will sound equally good if not better, but no, the exact thing is not available, though schematics for the Helios console driver as well as the octavia are all over the web. there are differences in the schematics though, and I won't get into a history lesson of the octavia and it's clones because that would take all week and require a whole section of the forum to discuss some of the errors that occurred as people cloned it, etc etc etc.

the deal here is, that sound most likely passed on with Jimi, and you and I may just have to live with that

axis fuzz into 1959s running almost flat out. I prefer running the axis almost as a clean boost, it has a lot of boost when you turn down the fuzz and increase the volume

Before you run of to the store for an Axis Fuzz I do have to tell you my experience with the Axis.
The high frequencies on mine were earpiercing. The harshest sounding fuzz I've owned. It does give sustain.
I only heard two of these fuzzez and both had those icepicking highs. Especially when I ran my Metro loud.
When you open up the Axis Fuzz and look at the board you can only find cheap parts. The pots are nice, but everything else very low budget. If you want this kind of sound I recommend spending about 30 dollars on good parts and make it yourself.

These sites have very nice people that will help you out.
In the end I got a DYI fuzz, which gets me closer to the later Hendrix sounds.
Like building your own amp you will understand why it is that no two fuzzez sound the same. Even if you get the "right"voltages and use the "right" transistors etc...
If you do persist on buying a fuzz I'd recommend the fulltone '70 or Sweetsound Fillmore West.

if you plan to go the DIY route, the sites mentioned here are great resources, as is this board (in the pedal section, or here if it's related to Jimi). You can build an Axis fuzz or any number of circuits, and even try the non-octave octavia fuzz if you wanted to.

and I've heard the same about the Axis, bright but works well with cutting through a loud band mix. don't think the Axis is the be-all end-all BOG circuit, just a suggestion

jimi used the axis. for those who want eq and plexibility, mayer offers the voodoo-axe. mine does not feature cheap parts but nice metal oxide resistors and a mexian switch. its very quiet and quite flexible (from bright to fat, from clean boost to more fuzz than a fuzz face)

if i had to buy some fuzz in this range, i'd perhaps go into these direction, fulltone 70 and as said previously, kr gypsy fuzz, and perhaps this one ( in the end of the clips it's not bad imho at 4:16 ........... very hendrix, and quite a lot BOG . the deep trip bog fuzz )

I built the Octavia at fuzz central with the npn conversion and octave on/off switch. TO ME it sounds spot on, I'll post a video for you later to make your own decision, but it was super cheap. And you get octave if you want it, and for BOG, you do.

Here it is:

Did you say "gut shot"?
I have a very special idea for the enclosure when I get the time.
BTW: Sorry for the poor sound quality, botched Hendrix, etc. etc. I'm not gearmanndude.
I will try to make a better video sometime, as this is my first real guitar video. However, if you can track down the transformer, I would recommend building this anyway.

Oh, by the way, I'm NOT using a GDEC junior anymore, I'm using the 45/100 I built.

The Blue Dunlop Jimi Hendrix fuzz nails the BOG sound with Vintage style single coils and a Super Lead if you adjust the bias voltage to the Q2 transistor { bias pots under board }. It is biased way too hot out of the box. :jimi:

nice work. yeah, later , if you can test it with your jtm45/100, on the octave off to hear the fuzz alone it'd be great. what transformer is it ? where did you find it ? makes me wanna build the same.
yladrd, please, some clips too ! ; )

in the end ( from 8: 30, hearing ghosts in the wind or something, incredible atmosphear ) of this youtube clip, there's a part of what i'm after, a lot... ( this clip isn't complete )
this sustain, feedback. yeah, i might buy this dunlop blue fuzz and tweak it, thanks !
