Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
Amparchives indicates that the first wide went cabs were from late 67, slighly later than this type of dual rectifier amp. its not entirely impossible that the cab is original after all.

Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
I've only ever seen Jimi with one Black Flag amp, which appeared as early as June '67 or maybe earlier. The serial # of this amp, while not being an accurate way to date it, does suggest it's a very early Black Flag amp, all of which suggests that it's very unlikely that the head cab is original. But anything can happen...

Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
this serial is 10049, .... and this is documented that some other amps he had were very close : serials
SLA 10032 03/69
SLA 10045
SLA 10047
SLA 10590 03/69 ( marcel aeby / switzerland )
SLA 12361
SL/A 5273A
ST/A 4329A
ST/A 4360A
Fender dual showman TFL 5000D 99110624 ( Al Hendrix )
Fender Champ 5F1 C11239
so ... 1969 for these serials ... and the 10049 from 67 .... it could confirm what mr marshall said, that it was an off the line serial.
pictures of the blackflag from hendrix era would be great if you have any.

Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
the 1969 10000 series should not be confused with the 1967 10000 series.
the narrow vents appears to have varied quite a lot. they really look handmade. but that vent looks like a wide one.

However, we cannot confirm anything Mr. Marshall allegedly said or didn't say about anything. This is third hand information.Xplorer wrote:... it could confirm what mr marshall said, that it was an off the line serial.

Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
Marshall serial numbers are such a jumble...it almost seems the numbers
were used by Marshall as an internal inventory control.
My Third Quarter 1968 100 watter is #107XX...It seems that number
doesn't fit the norm and I know it is legit.
Also my July 12th 1969 100 Watt ..one of the first metal panels
according to the tag date, is #40XX, I have seen low 4000's from 1970 and 1971
What a mess.

Remember that the early serial numbers were SL/1000x upto 69 and the post 69 were SL/A etc

Maybe quite an early pic as that has a tall B pinstripe and an A pinstripe with top strap handles.

Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
I have read that Jimi preferred his old pinstripe cabs and they were used in the studio for quite some time until they were falling apart. If i'm not mistaken it's from the Electric Ladyland sessions.

Re: Jimi Hendrix 1967 Blackflag
nice ! but how can we know the date of this session ? i've seen jimi with these cloths , in this studio, on some other more detailed pictures, so there are chances to find the date. if it's quite early, even with this vent, then we're getting closer, cause for now we can't see if it's a blackflag. thanks !
