Did Jimi use his Wah for quiet parts without a fuzz?

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

Hey guys,

I'm not at all a 'techy fix-it' kind of guy. Wouldn't have the slightly idea how to install either a retrofit or a pot on the fuzz. Could either of you post a for-dummies instructions on how to do it?

thanks!

Okay, so I checked with Jeffrey Teese, the guy who makes the Picture Wah that I have, and he confirmed that it already does have the FoxRox Retro Fit, which isn't solving the problem.

Xplorer - can you give me a how-to on installing the pot you mentioned... for a complete beginner? thanks!

If it has a FoxxRox Retrofit then it should look like this and only this:

If it does not then Geoffrey Teese is incorrect. I don't just assume because someone (generalizes/speculates). The FoxxRox website shows how to install the "Retrofit" in either the Teese RMC1 ; Teese RMC3 ; and Teese Picture Wah and not for any other Teese Wah pedal models (which could mean that all the other Teese Wah pedals actually DO have the FoxxRox Retrofit). It's easy enough to check out but, I'll bet yours doesn't have one. Just like I was told that my Budda Wah had a true "buffered output" section, yeah right! It does now though!

One more thing I wanted to offer up about buffering is that if your very first pedal and very last pedal in your guitar effects chain are "buffered" then you should be golden, and not incur the problems that you're presently having.

Yep, that is exactly what I see inside my Picture Wah, so I do have it. And I've tried adjusting it in every position possible which did not solve the issue.

Then it's not your wah that is the problem unless it's the wah pot needs to be replaced. Most likely it's your fuzz that's the culprit.

agree with lefty lu.

the actor, do you have another fuzz ? and a simple wah without the retrofit ?

get them, and now, test this on your fuzz input, picture attached, where you'll recognize a classic fuzz circuit , but just a portion of it. anyway, you'll have to recognize, just find a classic fuzz schematic somewhere, plenty out there.
it might be a great thing that you may build one some day, dead simple, and a good thing to start before amps.

so, on this picture, you'll see a pot sign on the input signal of the jack, 250 lin , bleeding to ground.
that's it, that's all you need to do, getting a 250k lin pot, and manage to solder it between the input signal connection of the jack, the input of the circuit, and the ground ( the ground of the circuit, which may be connected to the chassis, the chassis may be connected to both jacks grounds. the ground of the circuit may be connected to the output jack's ground.

get rid of the rest of this picture, just focus on recognizing how it's close to a classic fuzz , with Q1, the input jack ...
and focus on how to wire a simple pot or trimer there.

apply it to a known working simple fuzz, or build one within an hour or two. certainly plenty of kits on eBay for cheap.

now get another wah, and try with the wah going into the input of the fuzz. decrease the input bias a bit , your wah is going to work, despite the fuzz after it. normaly it shouldn't.

That will be a good base to compare with your other wah and other fuzz.

good luck
