Great Hendrix Tone on Fender Amps

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

Great Hendrix Tone on Fender Amps

Post by theactor19 » Sat Jul 09, 2011 2:02 pm

Was on youtube, checking out amp videos as usual.. and I came across this guy, who gets a really awesome hendrix tone through a vintage tweed bassman combined with a vintage super reverb. Enjoy!

I have a book (which I can't find at the moment, and can't member the title) but was written with the help of Eddie Kramer, who mentioned that Jimi "used a Blond Twin a lot in the studio".

We all tend to associate Jimi with Marshalls but that insight of Eddie Kramer's would surely explain why songs like Voodoo Child and Rainy Day Dream Away etc, sound more Fender'ish than Marshall'ish. His live rig(s) were definately Marshall based but his recording rig(s) may well have incorporated other amps which is noticable as his live tone is not is recorded tone.

I believe the quote was
he used a "Little Blond Showman" on rainy day dream away

unfortunately showman amps are not little

so was it a showman ?
Tremolux ?
Bassman head ?
Bandmaster head ?

the choices become more diverse if blond and tweed are being confused

dont forget that a kt66 first generation Super amplifier is a large clone of a fender amp

p
replica ?? I don't need no stinking replica ...

Yo I was feeling those youtube videos more than the Hendrix recordings I've heard recently. Pretty dreamy/melancholy sound though [geartalk: esp. with the reverb and the clarity of the equipment (that Strat, OCD, Fender amps, expensive cabling)]...

found some nice pictures with his silverface 1967 ( ? ) showman amps in an old guitar mag from 1995.
he used a fender twin reverb a lot too. you can see the sunn amps, four jtm45/100 i guess ? the four he bought in the beginning, and some fender amps. and sunn amps for Noël.
