Need Help Deciding which amp to get and what to do to it!

Post by harkkam08 » Sat Dec 18, 2010 11:48 am

Hey guys currently I own a JTM 45 but I've put her up for sale, I want me a 100 watter.

I want to nail Jimi's Later Concert years esp Berkley and Isle Of White and BOG. I know that Jimi's sound doesn't depend on just his amp, but just about every other part of my arsenal is up to par, esp my pedals and what not. I also want to use as many NOS parts as possible

All I need help is with my amp selection, NOS parts, and mods that were done. Here is the sound I want its a clip from Berkley.

and (berlin 1970 Machine Gun) I love this tone I want it!

--------------------------------

So far this is what I've gathered:

Amp : 100 Watt 69

Super lead or Super bass?

Which transformers (dagnalls or Mercury Magnetics) ?

Shared or Split Cathode?

El34's or 6550's?

What are the names of the NOS parts that replace the parts that come with Georges Kit. So far what I've gathered from reading a few posts are

1. .68uf WIMA Caps

What about the yellow caps that you can see here what are they called along with all the other NOS parts?

Thanks guys I really appreciate your help.

the amp archives photo is a standard split cathode super lead 69 amp which has had one wire changed to make it shared cathode from split. The yellow cap in the middle is the cathode bypass cap that is standard on 68-70 Marshall super leads. It is usually a .68 mustard cap. That one looks like a yellow chicklet and could be factory but don't know. .
