This is the one I just finished, going to form the caps and check the bias level, set her up and let her rip. Hit me with your comments or criticism.

looks good. personally, I wouldn't use quite as many AB CCs. also, I prefer uf4007s

what do you like a bout the uf4007? Are they a little faster and more musical? I am going to test several things out in the later days. Let her break in a settle down a little . Then I will be able to tell a little better what I like and don't like about it. I wish I could afford to find a set of gec tubes but I just can't go the scratch, so many other things going on now and nos gec kt66 for a grand is not one of them. What positions don't you like the carbon comps in and why?

The metal case diodes are almost as fast as the UF4007's. Plenty fast to overcome transient noise in guitar amp power supplies.

the UFs give less noise and they sound good. also, they are affordable.

CCs only distorts in positions where there is significant voltage drop or voltage swing across the resistor. in other positions they tend to a little noise but not the first order distortion.

I use CCs when I want a thicker and slightly more distorted tone yet softer tone. the 100k plates gives a dramatic effect. I dont like it on plexis. CC as slope resistor sounds good in some amps, esp 100watters. mixer resistors give a slight effect. also, I like CCs better on the brilliant channel than the normal channel.

whats the voltage drop over the 100ka on v2? if its above 200v, a 1w would be much safer.

I purchased those caps form George a long time ago. I have had this stuff sitting around my shop for a long time but have been busy with work and illness and many other things. Just started it. Sorry to get around to it so late in the game. IT happens if you know what I mean.

Yes 100k cc on V1 plates are good on a really bright amp like a split cathode Superlead IMO.

Just got her fired up & checked all voltages,everything looks good. Biased it up running about 33ma on the tubes. I am having trouble with it sounding like it has a blanket over the amp with humbuckers. Clean tones are wonderful with my tele, not breaking up like it thought it would with the tele. When I plug in the paul with hummers (loaded with throwbak pickups ) it is very dull and lifeless. Any thoughts. nos mullard in v1 nos rca v2 jj in v3

How loud? Often these builds sound a little sterile to my ears until they're cranked up to eight or so, gets better as they break in though.

Yes It is strange that the tele sounds so good but the les paul sounds like I have a blanket over the speaker cab. I sure hope it breaks in a ton. But I have to say it sounds just like a big jtm45 to me. But when you juice it, boy she has some guts.

I remember the first one I built just didn't seem to have "it" at first -- felt stiff and had to really work the guitar to get something happening. One day after a couple of weeks it was like the clouds parted and the sun shone through, suddenly had all the magic and smooth overdrive I was waiting for.

It is something when that happens. I have a marshall offset half stack and the cabinet has those silver celestion alnico speakers. I kept waiting and waiting for that cab to break in and it just never would. Finally it did and it was glorious. Beautiful sweet tone smooth and creamy. But they were icepicky for a while. I wish I could use that cab with this 45/100.

Exactly same thing happened on mine, plugged in a relatively sterile LP Custom (just after I had put the original pups in it to sell it) and it just sounded perfect.

I do plug into Hi channel 1 and the 45/100 has a 500pF bright cap on the pot and I run G12Hs.
