45/100 step by step

Post by frenchie » Thu Dec 20, 2007 4:58 am

So finally i succeeded in finding the most difficult parts to find ...filter board , aluminium chassis , 33uf 450v , and ....MUSTARDS ...i'll post photos of the process step by step and might have questions for all of you ...and to begin i would ask you if you have an idea of what i should choose for the 45/100 OT ...as there are just two brands that produce the replica of the original OT 1202-84 : MM and metro ...for the pt i've chosen marstran ...someone has already tested the MM ??

Since when doesn't Marstran have a 1202-84? Is Brian out of stock on it for the moment?

The Marstran web site still shows the 1202-84 in stock (1 left) plus some screaming deals on his "misfit transformers" sale page on 1202-84's. I have one of them in a Super PA and it freaking rocks!!!

I think he may be. I contacted him about tranys for a JTM100 (it was for the PT tho) and I think he may be out of stock of both despite the site..

shit !! he may load his stock more often ...i'll have to wait ...building a jtm100 is hard ...some quality parts are so rare !! i'll post pictures of the chassis soon ...you'll tell me if i drilled it correctly .. perhaps a kt 66 will be a bit close to the PT for some millimeters ... but that's not sure judjing by some jtm photos i found in amp archive ....in some historic examples ...the filter board covers approx the half of the first KT66 tube socket !!so i don't worry too much ..but having different opinions is good too

Where did you get the chassis?

Yep, the power board in my JTM100 covers some of the tube sockets. In fact, it was so large it wouldn't fit with the power/standby switches. I cut two small notches in the board for clearance/safety.

Those misfit transformer deals really are unbelievable... makes me want to build another amp but I'm not even done with the first one!

the chassis ...: in the tube amp doctor website there is an undrilled aluminium chassis for 100w marshall ...but it is a german site ...in euros the price is 69euros which is not so expensive ...but as you are american... beware... considering shipping cost and taxes plus converting euros in dollars ..wouha you should have a purse sized like a travelbag to buy this to my mind !!!! In fact i have the same problem when i order american parts from france it doubles the price every time i do this ...very bad surprises at the end of the month !!

in fact drilling the tube socket holes was really hard for me as i had not the proper tools to do this ...i had punches but my driller is a mini driller with only a 3milimeter foret( i may not be the right word in english for it but i think you'll understand ) so the first hole which allows you to enter the axis of the punch was each time really hard to drill ..you know the technique i adopted was to drill four 3mm holes very close one to another and scratch the aluminium to the right dimention of the axis ...and then punch it ...that's why the first hole is done in a quite aproximative distance from the pt...

And i took the same technique to drill the pt hole ...very close one to another 3mm holes and then scratch the alu ...3hours for this hole ! fortunatly i'm a quite patient person ..obstinated too!! but it works!!

i think i made a mistake on the chassis ...for the 12AX7 i punched the chassis with the 22.4 greenlee and not the 20.4 ...... ....someone can tell me if i can fix this anyway ...i know this corresponds to just 1mm ring lacking ...but then i don't know if the socket will fit ...shit

aaah !! i've found 22mm 12AX7 sockets with gold pins !!! cool ...so it was not a full mistake ... :) i feared having to drill another chassis !!
