I just saw an article on the Gibson website and would like to get some feedback/suggestions from other forum members on getting the Billy Gibbons Classic tone from using a Metro 12,000 amplifier.
Volume 7
Volume II 2
Bass 1
Mid 10
Treble 9
Presence 2
Thank you very much in advance for your replies.

Those settings look like a great staring point.
I would definitely dime the middle control. Start with Presence, Bass and Treble on 5. Raise Volume 1 until the gain comes on. There should be a "bark" in the tone, but not so gainy that you lose the low "thunk" on wound strings.
Depending on speakers, cab, guitar etc I tend to lower the presence and treble a little. Bass I start at zero and bring it up until it gets woofy, then back it off a bit.
Hope that helps.

George,
Thank you very much for the reply. I can't even start to share with you how much I love the 12000 series amplifier you built for me. I also appreciate all of your feedback on this forum. I have learned so much over the past few years from you and other forum members. Again, thank you. I hope all is going well with you.

Rig Rundown - ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons:

Detailed settings for JMP-1 preamp, there's also a glimpse at the Mojave Scorpion, you might have to take a snap shot from a video as it's shown only for a few seconds.
On a related note, I came across this interesting topic about ZZ Top's recording tidbits:
