3 hours alone with.....

Post by monkface » Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:13 pm

Ok so another topic. If you could spend three hours alone with your favorite player, who would it be and what would you want to talk about? I really sort of mean with guitars in hand but not merely restricted to a lesson. P.S for the sake of the thread let's avoid Van Halen. Nothing against him, it's just that obviously there is s whole section about him with 8 billion posts already!

Paco DeLucia.
I don't speak Spanish and his English is limited so...
my guess would be cigarettes, booze, and a nudie bar.

Sitting down with Rev Billy G would be a good time, just chat and have a brew and learn about his tone. I think Robben Ford would be great just to try and decode his thinking about the fretboard.

Michael Schenker, 'cause there's lots of phrases and licks that would be cool to see him play. I'd like to play the E minor vamp that he solo's over in the live 'Rock Bottom', so he can solo, then maybe get a chance to solo over his rhythm a bit. I guess I'd talk to him about some life situations and his outlooks as well.

Dave Gilmour...and not necessarily talk about anything in particular, just hang out and jam. Seems like a nice chap
My favorite player since I first heard King's X in 1989 is Ty Tabor, who I have met a few times. Nice guy, awesome player. I'd love to sit in with King's X and play some parts Ty can't do live!

Or spend a day with Jimmy Page anybody?! And yes! Tinkering on a car with Beck = fun.

Nail on the preoverbial head, jj!!!

One time I saw him at Fat Tuesday's in Manhattan, he says after the gig "Hey where you all going??? Come on in the back. Let's talk. He was sitting in a big lazy boy with all of us gathered like around like Christmas morning telling all his famous stories.

Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, or Joe Stump for pure guitar-oriented stuff (though I'd bet Beck would talk cars.)

And I'd enjoy going flying with Steve Morse.

I'd have to say Django Reinhardt on the Seine, because

a) I don't speak a lick of French
b) I could never hang with him musically, so maybe we could just go fishing
c) even if there were guitars there it kinda wouldn't matter
d) I think there would be immeasurably enlightening moments, every moment, pure magic
