Identify Lemmys supposly First bass!

Post by Irön/Beast » Sat Mar 17, 2012 4:36 pm

I found an very interresting video about Rickenbacker basses and what's interresting in THIS video in particular is that they had Lemmy's supposly FIRST bass and was asked to fix it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3hZisVFCso" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It offers some pretty clear angles and views of the body, it has neck and body and headstock, but seemingly has nothing more than that, stripped of all hardware and harness(wiring, pickups, pots and caps e.t.c), and looks VERY worn so judging by the apperance only this Rickenbacker has been through ALOT!

Now the question, judging from the shape of the body, how the neck is shaped, the neck and everything, can anyone tell EXACTLY what model that Rickenback is, and also, if the features of how the neck for instance is looking like, can anyone tell with those details what year perhaps the bass was made?

Some instruments from various makers often have different features on their models from different years, a Gibson Les Paul/SG swich to T-Tops after 1963, 1961 had the slimest neck and often increasingly became thicker throughout the sixties. The cutaway carvings on the SG was not as deep and became less deep from 1961 to 1970. Some different parts and stuff also includes wiring for instance was different from various years, some features combined with others might have been only available at one year only and so on, i can go on to give an example but you probubly get the idea.

It all depends on the maker, the instrument, the model and much more, but some instruments carry features that is unique to a specific year not found in other earlier or later years and so on.

Is it possible to tell the year or at least what model the Rickenbacker is? Anyone being well known here about old Vintage Rics to give any clues??

My eyes are not trained but i would first think of some 4001 model but i'am not sure.

Anyone who can give any suggestion or point to what model and perhaps what year it could be? It's modded afterall but don't know what's been modded, he doesn't say in the video either what's been modded so no idea personaly.

Best Regards - Irön/Beast
