I love the tone of that intro solo. It sounds like a fairly clean single coil in the neck position. I was hoping anyone more familiar with single coils than myself could steer me in the right direction for getting a similar tone. Any ideas on the output (maybe 5-8k) and magnet type (alnico 2 or 5)?
Ideas on this tone?

Sounds like Alnico 5 to me. Probably 6.5K DC ohms. That is my guess.

"Forever Now", a song by Cold Chisel from Circus Animals released 1982.
It's a Bill Lawrence single rail pickup.

Mossy.... Ian Moss from the band Cold Chisel... one of my favourite players back in the day.
A strat through a plexi doesn't get better than that.

He stated in Australian Guitar Vol 56 Nov 2006 Page 32:
"Amp-wise, it was my 1974 JMP Super Lead 100-watt Marshall. And between my guitar and the front end of the amp, I used a Yamaha analog delay, which I think was called the 1101. I pretty much had this one setting, which was a doubling effect. I'd get this by setting the regeneration to about 50% with a very short delay of somewhere around 25ms. to my ear this produced a thick, hollow, tube-like sound. This was all over Circus Animals."

That's the neck pickup tone... Looks stock to me... staggared & flat edges.(Late 70's lead filled big headtsock)
I heard some coloring in the tone but, what leadguy previously posted explaines that...
There are plenty of great choices for hum-cancelling but, I wouldn't go with that DiMarzio HS series...(better for distorted tones) Virtual Vintage series are much, much closer to a single coil.
Hum-cancelling & keeping it Fender... the newer Fender Samarium Cobalt noiseless have similar tones. .2¢
