Johnny Hiland...the next big thing

Post by T.J.Fuller » Wed Jul 20, 2011 8:04 pm

Honestly, I'm not trying to make a taste-less joke here..
but, this guy is one of the bad-est guitar players alive!!!!
I know Danny Gatton was called the intimidater but, Johnny is worthy of the title now!
Playing guitar since age 3
name the instrument he can play it
Was already a 15 year pro musician by age 21
signed by steve vai by hearing a phone message of Hiland on his answering machine.
endorsed by Fender before he was even signed to a label
he is mainly a nashville chickin' pikin master with Malmsteen speed
legally blind and probably tips the scales at 350 ( keep that in mind when you hear those big fingers fly )

BUT, he can crush most rockers at there own game...
and to prove it ...the following clip is Hiland with Sammy Hagars band at the Cabo Wabo
they are doing "Going Down" watch the whole video and listen , I'm sure Jeff Beck would say ...Hell Yeah

Enjoy

He was a PRICK to me when I said hello at NAMM a few years back.

I watched a ton of his you tube vids over the weekend and he seemed pretty humble and low key....

maybe an off day ??? ...

it totally Sucks to meet someone famous/or in the spotlight and get the PRICK treatment....

I've met alot of famous people but, I got that PRICK treatment from Yngwie...but I really think it was an off day
and he was dealing with some drama.......I still think Yngwie rocks better any of those classical -shredders who jumped
immediately on his coat-tails...

Everybody has their days I guess. I was just a bit put off as I was standing there looking at some guitars and he just walked up next to me and I said "Hi"...

The little I've heard I was suitably impressed. I'll have to check out more with an open mind.

A friend of mine (almost literally) walked into Mick Jagger when he was entering an elevator that ol' Mick was exiting.
He got the SUPER prick treatment when he told Jagger "Man I've just LOVED your music forever!!"

Jagger replies "Yeah, whatever" and walks right past him.

Some guys just fuckin' BEG for a knee in the nuts, famous or not.

Yeah, no doubt. IMHO I don't care who the fuck you are. You just don't be rude to someone who is trying to tell you that they appreciate your work (I'm NOT going to say talent because THAT is subjective!).

I've heard stories like that about Jagger. To the point where if he comes in a room you don't speak to him until HE says it's ok. Yeah, I would bite MY tongue.... :P

How 'bout if I just plow my size 13 boot up his skinny ass for a sec?? Think that fucking douche-wad is ok with THAT??

I like Luca's playing better in that clip, Hiland is a monster no doubt, it was hard to hear Hiland in that mix, regardless I would have liked to have been there to watch them tear it up!

+1...

I felt the exact same way. At times its hard to tell who is who in that mix. It almost seemed like JH was either holding back, or just giving LO his space, and for SURE LO is a monster deserving of some space!!

I certainly wouldnt pick up a guitar in front of either of 'em!!
