Gary Moore, RIP.

Post by Scumback Speakers » Sun Feb 06, 2011 12:58 pm

Gary Moore was found dead in a hotel in Spain this morning. Apparently he passed away in his sleep. Age 58. I loved his playing. News link below.

This is a real shock. Like I said in an earlier post here on Metro, I got to see Gary play with Thin Lizzy back in '78 and he just blew the place away. He just totally man-handled some great music out of that LP of his.

RIP Gary.

I know that we all can't live forever, but Gary Moore went way to soon. I have admired this guitarist so much, that even though I don't personally know him or even got a chance to see him perform live, I feel like I lost a friend.

This is truly sad news. I always get into an artist so late. Man could this guy both sign and play. He had it all. As good as he was...He truly did not get his due. This man smoked. He lit up the place and shreded with the best of them. Maybe even better. Plus did I say he could sign..can't say that about the rest. He had it all!!

Rest in Peace Gary!!!

Lost for words... :( I'm a huge fan, particularly of his 80's 'victims of the future' and 'wild frontier' albums.

Suddenly this day job seems just a little more pointless.

Thank you Gary for all the good times, great tones, soaring vocals and all around inspiration. You proved to me that a singing guitarist CAN do it all. You and Rory were my heroes.

sad...

This is shocking. Very sad. Gary Moore was my hero when I was a teenager and still is. He had it all. The first time i heard his version of "Shapes of Things" on the radio in 1984 that was it. I learned alot about the guitar by trying to learn his licks. He could play blues, rock, fusion and he was an awesome singer and songwriter. He was one of the best...RIP.

Sad day, not many could match his technique or fire let alone both together.

I'm home sick with the stomach flu, and now I'm officially in mourning over GM today. Good day to stay on the couch and recuperate.

Hi.
I'm kinda surprised to see that Dave aka yngwie hasn't posted his comment here yet, being such a devoted fan... I am really sad that Gary is gone. I'm 32 and I've been listening to his music since I was about 8, just before the release of his Wild Frontier album. I have followed him ever since, bought all his albums and got to appreciate his skills and talent even more since I started playing the guitar when I was 13. I remember being a young teenager and trying to cope with the SGTB solo with my Hal Leonard book open and my ears wide open too... It's like I've lost a tiny bit of my life. I'm really deeply moved by his death.

In my heart he was and still is #1, above SRV, Hendrix and all the rest. His blend of blues, rock and hard rock just speaks to me, whatever era I delve into. Be it Military Man/Empty Rooms from the Wild Frontier tour or Blues for Greeny, to me he had it all. I had the chance to see him during his BBM tour and he just ripped. I've watched his Blues Alive VHS over and over again. Just raw power and feel.

RIP Gary...
