yeah, I know the video
As a curious story, the first times that Paco was doing rehearsals with them, he was very tense and wasn't playing as good as he could.
Al DiMeola approach to him as asked: What happens? you can play far better that you are doing...
Paco said: you're jazz players and you play so many chords in a progression, and I can't follow you...
Al reply: hey man, if you use this scale, you can play over all of our chords.
DiMeola said that some minutes after that, Paco was playing amazing and they with the jaw on the floor.
I have to say, that, like almost every flamenco player, Paco didn't know any music theory. No scales or harmony knowledge. They play by imitation and by ear.
In flamenco there's, usually, a 4 or 5 chords progression and you play in the scale of the chord you're playing. Imagine to do that on those jazz's chord progressions without knowing music theory...
Another funny story was when Paco was asked to play the "Concierto de Aranjuez", a classical music masterpiece by Maestro Joaquín Rodrigo, and one of the most difficult classical guitar pieces ever written. (And you know that playing classical is too different to play flamenco)
After signing the contract, the producers gave Paco the book with the score of the piece. Then, Paco told them that he didn't know to read a score and asked for a record to lear by ear the whole piece... and it's a 24 minutes piece!
After the performance, Maestro Rodrigo, the composer said that Paco played exactly what he thought when he wrote the song,.. amazing.
