There was a detailed article in ToneQuest Report about it. Allegedly Kent saw the original guitars Rory used. The most interesting thing to me was what he found in the famous 61 strat - no original pickups but 2 Fender mid 70s in the neck and middle and a DiMarzio Fat Strat in the bridge. Well - Rory may not have been the first and he definitely is not the last who thinks that the stock strat bridge is too thin sounding ...

Cheers Stephan

Same thing that prompted me to put the stock humbucker I pulled out of my LP in my strat copy in the late 70's. Yes, before I saw the cover of VH 1 but nobody would ever believe me....

Why on earth would any Fender or Gibson purist want to turn a Fender into a Gibson or visa versa? With the advent of HB SC's, P-90 in a SC, noiseless SC's, etc. one doesn't have to carve up a perfectly good guitar. Same goes for Bigsbys on Tele's, Flying V's, etc., Or worse yet Floyd Rose tremolos on Les Paul guitars, sacrilege! That's what PRS guitars are for.

THAT's FUNNY, LOU!    I hate the PRS overhype, cork sniffing.

I agree, the strat I put the HB in was a (Sam Ash) Carlo Robelli. I couldn't afford a real Gibby AND a real Fender at the same time!

And, not many of those options werea around "in the old days"...

I find it funny that Gallaghers 'Garden Strat' had a Fs-1 bridge and two '70's era pu's (middle, neck). He sweat so much that I'm sure the original one's were toast by the mid '70's. So, is that what the Kent Armstrong pu's are based on, the pu's in it during his classic early/mid '70's recordings (1960 single coils) ?

That also begs the question, what are the pups in the Custom Shop RG tribute guitar modeled after? If they are true to the state the guitar was in after Rory's passsing it would have to be the 70's and the hotter aftermarket to be period correct, eh? The brideg pup in my RG doesn't seem too be too hot.
