Was there ever a studio version of "Suspender Love" ? I've only heard the Tokyo Tapes one. I agree, great solo. Roth just seemed to have a very rare connection with the guitar. I love that solo he did on Tokyo Tapes " In Search Of The Piece Of Mind". That was so 'moody' for lack of a better word. He ended with a very free and rejoycful sorta feel. I love it. I also love that very Far eastern sounding riff thats repeated over at the end of "Yellow Raven". Great stuff.

Sorry, I missed this when it was posted, but yeah, there was a studio version of "Suspender Love" — this is the version I am speaking of, and it was on an obscure Japanese compilation vinyl album. I have it.

I just saw and met one of the greatest guitarists alive. Watching and meeting Uli Jon Roth is like encountering Buddha, Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, Socrates, Paganini, and Da Vinci all at once. He's an absolute virtuoso, a very tasteful player, and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I am happy. :D

Well in an old Guitar Player interview that I have somewhere he says that he uses two types of fuzzes. A fuzz Face and something like a Shala or something. I think he must have used the fuzz a lot a Strat into a Standard Marshall doesn´t give much distortion even with the amp crancked.

Yeah, I think he is currently using a Schaller fuzz (a straight up fuzz face clone). Uli used a a fuzz face a bit on his first two Scorpion albums ('Fly to The Rainbow' and 'In Trance') but by 'Virgin Killer' he was starting to use a Roland Jet Phase. That great super distorted, phased out kind of sound was the jet phase. 'Polar Nights', 'I got To Be Free' and 'We'll Burn The Sky' was all the Jet phase (It has seperate fuzz and phase operation, or combined). Uli would often use the jet phase along with the wha wha in fixed position (studio version of 'Polar Nights' and the Tokyo tapes version of 'ALL Night Long').

Uli still used a fuzz face some though (like on Tokyo tapes 'Fly to The Rainbow' and 'Dark Lady') as well as on the first track on his Electric Sun album (Electric Sun).

Ui's current sound doesnt seem to employ the Jet phase, though a review 10 yrs ago or so, said there was a Jet phase on the stage. Uli sounds like he's using his old Super tremelo head ran in tandem with a newer, preamp gain amp (a jcm 900 I think). He uses the schaller fuzz face alot to get that very 'smooth with hair around the edges' gain alot. The space echo is still used alot.

I just saw Uli live and he was great as I knew he would be.......He's using Blackstar amps for his current US tour....They sound fine....The band and playing is top notch.....He plays different songs on different nights.......Some times more Hendrix than others...but always a lot of old Scorpions....I was honored to tell him I love him and shake his hand...

Great player. I learned of him through Marty Friedman. Uli is his favorite player and you can definately hear him in marty's phrasing.

VIP seats were great to a sold out show of 500.
10 feet up surrounding the stage looking over Uli's shoulder.
7 piece tonight with a 15 year old Tasmanian. Even did the guitar-behind-the-head lead pretty damn good.

They played zero Electric Sun, but killer deep cut's of Scorps. Marc Boals was better for that a few years ago...
An extended half hour Hendrix medley Jam at the end of the show...
I knew none of the members. All played good together except - Lo-light's were disaster on Dark Lady where EVERYONE forgot the middle of the song. Hi-lights were an extended Sails of Charon. Singer mentioned the show was being recorded...

He played a black & a white STAR into a nearly dimed Backstar half stack through His famous CryBaby wah, A BOSS volume pedal, A Blackstar Dual Distortion, 2 MXR Carbon copies, a Digitech whammy pedal, T-Rex Rep-Tile, and a ???ator pedal...
