Only heard bits and pieces. Hope he's not trying the Rod Stewart classics thing...

Re: Clapton's Clapton
its one of his better recent albums, doyle bramhall seems to steer him in a good direction, back home was pretty aweful, but i still listen to it coz it's clapton and there's just nothing in the world like clapton playing guitar!!! I cant help but hope that he'll bust out an SG or LP through a 45/100 stack...
he did use an LP on this record though which was great...
I was listening to the cream reunion tonight on my run and he just hasnt played that well since he left cream, even his tone is good (for modern eric) on that cd/dvd... it really was magical...

Re: Clapton's Clapton
I look at it like this, which is "If you have been Great before, Then you can be Great again". Clapton has CERTAINLY been great before, and has been since, every now and then (that 'Blues' Festival thing 4 yrs ago or so on stage with Santana for sure. Eric KILLED on that solo !) .
Eric just needs to be 'incognito' or better put, Unimportant, to the rest of the players in a GROUP context. Then he would HAVE to play well, instead of alway's being the guy signing the checks to the 'paid' group around him who are like "Whoa, this is Eric Fuckin Clapton we're playin with" !
I recal that Vinnie Appice, when asked who most SURPRISED him on his solo album (Vinnie Appice's solo album that is), He had SEVERAL great guitarist on it, but he said YNGWIE MALMSTEEN! Vinnie thought that maybe this was gonna be a very structured and fast/technical affair, but found that Malmstteen was a MASTER improviser and very Bluesy/Soulful.
Malmsteen needs to rejoin Alcatraz and take orders from Graham Bonnet again huh
, like Clapton needs the direction and contribution/input from others.
