Shawn Lane

May he RIP.

This guy, IMO was operating on a much higher plane than anyone else.
Go thru a few YouTube vids, it's not all shred. He was able to play anything and play it flawlessly, with breathtaking ease.

Many people copy the finest guitarists......so far nobody even scratched the surface of what Shawn was about.

Look up the '79 vids with Black Oak.....absolutely amazing plaing.....his style was already there at 16-17 years old.

Shawn was a monster player, and seemed like a nice, humble person.
When I first started learning about him I thought he was all shred, but once I dug a bit deeper I found that I was wrong. There's much to discover there.
There's also a bootleg out there of him jamming some Beatles tunes with Paul Gilbert - good stuff.
He does overdo them a little but I also like those videos of him playing Hendrix tunes.

amazing work no doubt. wanted to go beyond the "shred" scene. fusion, ethnic, etc... the good ones have to go.

That's what I have, psoriatic arthritis. I became a diabetic taking steroids (not anabolic) to control the pain and swelling I have. Now I take Enbrel injected once per week and I can do things again that I couldn't before, like play the guitar, use a screwdriver, ect.
He was very talented, but kept going despite it all, I sympathise with Shawn.
