10,000 Series Metroamp cranked

Post by Guitar5986 » Wed Sep 05, 2012 5:20 pm

Thought I'd share a few tracks with the 100w '67 Superbass Metroamp kit that was built by one of George's employees. Tracks 1 (Building the Stone Again), 2 (The Island Song), & 5 (Oralius) all feature the amp. Other songs on the album are played on my old Fender Twin or a few late 50's Gibson amps.

Track 2 is actually a '68 BF Twin Reverb up until about 4:50 when I switch to the Metroamp with everything but the bass on 10. The amp is being played through a StoneAge 4x12 loaded with Weber ceramic Michigan speakers. Pretty much everything is straight into the amp with no effects. Played these in a big warehouse which added a lot to the sound. I always have the eq settings dimed on this amp (except the bass).

The amp runs on a variac set to 110V has old mustard and Lemco caps. I run it with the following tubes:
V1: Mullard I61 12AX7
V2: Tungsram 12AX7
V3: Mullard CV4024
Power Tubes - Mullard xf2's (except the solo on track 1 which are Siemens EL34's)

Really great amp! Now I need a JTM100...

Nice tone and songs.. I must build myself a 10k series some time too. But beware. If you get famous you will be sued. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w79Jpl6WXFE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :-)

Thanks! What do you mean about getting sued though? :(

It was a joke. Well... partly. The second song of yours includes that descending part like the one I posted. Frumpy - the german band from the 70s. Don't worry about it. Finding these similarities is kind of an obssesion of mine. I don't do it consciously. It just happens. :-)

Ah ok, I was trying to find any similarity's and couldn't put my finger on anything. Good ear!

Hadn't heard of Frumpy before either. Pretty interesting stuff.
