Finally up and running again!!!!
My main computer's mobo croaked about a month ago, and even a new identical mobo wasn't enough to fool Windows XP's activation -- it was a no go.........not that I've ever been too free with using XP in a clandestine manner, you understand.......ummmm.........
Finally got about 90-95% of my files back off the drive (a bunch of stuff was encrypted, ouch....) and finally got the recording gear and software running tonight. Felt the need to crank out some Thin Lizzy with my Les Paul and my Black Flag '67 100-watter!!!
A little "Black Rose" for Dave "Yngwie308" maybe?

That clip sounds fantastic! I am assuming that is the Oktava MK319 condenser you recorded with?

The Oktava is on the right, a Cascade Fathead ribbon on the left. The Cascade seems more "flat" in response, while the Oktava has a nice presence spike. I'm extremely happy with the sound, after a little reverb is added.zrAC/DC wrote:That clip sounds fantastic! I am assuming that is the Oktava MK319 condenser you recorded with?
Have some driver conflict or something though, playback in Sonar has a choppy glitch to it that disappears after I export the audio out. It's irritating the crap out of me -- anyone heard of any conflicts between Sonar and Creative Audigy sound cards maybe?

How much volume can you put into a cascade fathead and still be safe for using the mic?

Re: Finally up and running again!!!!
Their posted specs say 165dB, holy crap........wouldn't have thought it would go that high.
I had an attenuator on it to preserve the cab's 30-watt speakers as that amp really digs into them, wasn't really worried about the mics.

Sounds good over hear ! With a little verb added sounds really nice.
Hey that sure is a lot of db's that mic handles. Then again I have no probs with a 57 on the grill dimed...
I agree, I like to have a flat liner mic as well. My BeyerDynamic M 201 is that for me.
Are you running Sonar with Creative Audigy sound card? I'm not sure but, if your having issues with that setup, try looking on E-Mu for support. I think that is the company that manufacters some of Creative's top cards.
I use an M-adio FW410 interface but, Creative X-Fi in my computer.

Andy,
what's the filtering in that clip? it sounds stiffer than my 67 100w (w/22/22/32/16/50uf). Also, which choke do you use?
