1987 vs 1986 CLEAN tone

I'm one of those people that loves Marshall cleans.

I especially like the early 70s 1987 cleans, like at the beginning of this video:

What I haven't really been able to hear is a good comparison between a 1987 and a 1986 (bass) of the same era when played clean.

For those of you who have heard both, what do you like about each?

I prefer the bass circuit over the lead when driven, but for clean I think I may prefer the clarity of the lead.

The JTM45 gets honorable mention because it's cleans are beautiful but a little too warm and not clear enough for me, but that could maybe be fixed by EQ.
