Trying to figure out year of this cab

So a few things have been changed, newer speakers added, corner protectors added and wiring was weird but I put it back to stock.
Also gold piping isn't there, perhaps those bits have been recovered or removed, paid about $560US. It has metal handles so must be older.
Any ideas? Looks like a basket weave late 60's early 70s to me but not 100% sure.

Probably 1970 (if the grill cloth is original). It's been retolexed and may have been originally purple...

Ahhh ok cool yeah its an ex hire cabinet so they may have changed it to black to make it less "out there". I've had other people say it was most likely a custom colour cabinet.
Is it hard to track down some replica purple tolex? Seeing as its already been done once before, wouldn't hurt to make it purple

I agree. Construction build is 1970-1972 (at the latest). Cloth may just be really faded and might not have been a custom color, though. I've got a few cabs with salt & pepper cloth (aka basketweave) that are that faded and have their original black tolex.
One thing is for sure, anything is possible with Marshall and their overlapping features, handles and coverings from 70-72.
Since it has been recovered, if you want it purple, do it!
Here's what the currently available aftermarket purple looks like. It's not Marshall purple, which is darker and costs 4X as much per yard. I built these for Steve Stevens for the 2010 Billy Idol tour. The pic with Steve in it is the tour's opening night in Moscow. This tolex is $17 per yard.
Below is the Marshall Purple tolex.

This tolex is $50 per yard.

I've been lucky to be contacted by a number of cool guitarists, and they've all been pretty nice to work with.

ok cool do you think the price I paid for it was ok considering it was retolxed? ($560ish US)
Also I'm in Australia and theres nobody locally that does this sort of work, shipping it around to get it done will be hard

If you paid $560 USD for that cab, you did good. The metal handles alone are $300-350 USD, if you can find them for sale. And that grill cloth is in decent shape considering it's 40 plus years old. I wouldn't clean it, or mess with it. I'd just get a soft narrow (1-2 inch wide) and lightly brush it to get rid of excess dust or dirt in the weave.
Sorry about the recovering issue, but I quit doing this type of work about 5 years ago. Surely there is someone in OZ that does this?

wow that much for handles alone?
The thing about this old cab is it really sounds a lot better then the new ones I heard with greenbacks. It has to be the actual timber inside the cab making this difference. It really was night and day, and not mushy like the others I heard.
