4 Holer's - Turn up the Bass, or...

Post by JimiJames » Wed Oct 28, 2015 6:41 pm

Who's using Ch.2 for bass instead of Bass ? Bass on Zero & jumpered channel.
I find this more toneful - woofy, not muddy? Great for cleaner Tones !
Warning: I play at loud decibles ! ;-)

I do it.

Bass on 0 and use the normal channel to add bass with more defined tone.

This is good info.

I usually jumper the channels = volume 1 cranked all the way up & volume 2 turned up to 4 w/ the bass turned all the way up on 10.

How do you guys set the volume controls?

I need to try this, especially with my single coil strat.

I sometimes turn up the bass channel to as much as 7 in order to get more gain and bass in the preamp. It works very well if the bright channel isn't dimed

For what I been playing lately, I actually have volume 1 @ around 7, not dimed.
So who uses a patch cord and who uses a Y cable to jumper channels?

I use both. I think the Y cord sound has a little more distortion maybe? They do sound a little different but my ears play tricks on me.

I do not bridge the channes but this tricks works well anyway, since the vols interact with the mixer circuit between v1 and v2

I tired everything from attenuators to pedals with my 1976 JMP model 1959. This thing was just way too loud for anything, even my tech said it put out more volume than others he has tested.

So I just had him covert it to 2203 specs and was done with it. But maybe you guys are playing venues where you can really let them rip.

How come the attenuator didn't work? I find that hard to believe. Should sound amazing. What kind of attenuator did you try?

I use a marshall powerbreak with my 100 watt 1959 and it works great and sound amazing. Never had an issue.

I tried a weber one, it worked ok but I still had to turn it right down and it sounded kinda compressed and flubby.

I had it converted to pre amp just to make it useable, the tech also does a non invasive totally reversable mod to give second solo boost with a footswitch.

Its totally reversible but i would never remove it, that really is the only downside to old marshalls and having to rely on sound tech to boost you up rarely works :champ:
