So I bought a 33uf+33uf to experiment with over either the sceens and PI or the preamp in my 2204.
To give everyone an idea of what i am looking for is :
feel under the fingers when i play.
for the amp to be more interactive, which most of us call touch sensitivity.
But I want it with sweetness and a tad of compression while still being tight and not flub city.
I figured the first thing I will do is change the filter can in my preamp with the 33+33 to see/feel what it is like.
Then i will put the pre-amp back to 50+50 and try the 33+33 on the screens and PI.
I am afraid that on the screens and PI it will give me ghosting or too much flub?
Maybe this will help. I DO like what a bit of reverb and/or delay does to a sound as far as making it a bit fatter and softer.
I also plan on trying out a couple .047uf caps on the PI couplers from .022uf to see if that also gives me a tad deeper low end and maybe sweetens the high notes a tad as well.
also maybe upping the V1B plate resistor to 150k for some slight compression?
or would lowering V1a cathode resistor to 8.2k from 10k achieve a slightly warmer more compressed sound?
I tried 4.7 on the V1a cathode resistor and it was too mush and lost definition.
thought on all this?
I dont want loose and harsh or brittle.
I want deeper, a bit softer and sweeter but tight ( which means not losing definition)
if that makes any sense.
I guess I just have to try it all out.
cheers
Touch sensitivity. how to get it without mush?

Tried the 33+33 on the Screens and PI and prefer the 50+50
I like it tighter.
gonna try the 33+33 on the preamp tomorrow and see if that does anything for me.
Maybe i just need to crank the amp with a good attenuator to get the extra compression and sweetness I am looking for
cheers

Re: Touch sensitivity. how to get it without mush?
Touch sensitivity is achieved by boosting highs. Try putting cathode bypass caps over the 10k and the 820R of the next stage. If you put a 0.1u over the 10k, and a 0.47u over the 820R, then you've basically got Slash's tone from Use Your Illusion. Also replace the 470p before the gain pot with a 2n2. You can soften the sound a bit by putting a 150k resistor from the output of the gain pot to ground.
If there's too much highs then try using a small grid stopper on the grid of the 2nd or 3rd stage or put a plate bypass cap over the 2nd or 3rd stage. You could also lower the NFB resistor or move the existing one to a higher ohm tap on the output transformer.
For more compression you could try lowering the B+ voltage to the preamp tubes by increasing the 10k resistor between the phase inverter and output tube screens to 12k, 15k or 18k. You could also try bumping up the 3rd stage cathode resistor from 820R to 1k or more.

Re: Touch sensitivity. how to get it without mush?
I actually put my NFB to 47k on the 4ohm and like it more than the 100k at the 4ohm.
For some reason I had a bad cap again on my 10k. the .68uf which is stock. I changed that out and my tone got punchier and clearer.
made my amp sound better. before it was blurry sounding.
I also was able to up one of the plate resistors to 120k
sounds so much better now.
thanks!
oh I have tried the .1uf on the 10k and didnt like it at all.
