UK Builders

Where do you guys in the UK source most of your parts for amp-builds? Chassis / Transformers / Head Cabs / Filter Caps / Tube Sockets / Chokes / Tag Boards / mounts and screws. Do they really all have to come from the USA (with the P+P and Import Duty that this attracts).

UK looks pretty thin on the ground for this type of stuff, but surely there must be some places in the EU (where there will be no Import Tax) which do this kind of stuff to the same quality?

http://www.ampmaker.com/store/home.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; looking interesting, although it looks like 50w and 100w stuff is custom order.

Here's what I've gathered from my searches:

UK:
http://www.ampmaker.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for general things
http://modulusamplification.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for general things
http://www.hotroxuk.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; cheapest Marshall impedance/voltage selectors
http://www.hificollective.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for CC resistors, including cheap AB's
http://www.audiocap.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for F&T capacitors
http://www.watfordvalves.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for plexi switches and F&T capacitors
http://www.ampmaker.com/infocentre/forum-21.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for good quality/price cabinets
http://www.plasticstockist.com/Kite-Tufnol-Sheet.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for board material - very cheap and great looking!
http://uk.farnell.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for resistors, diodes etc
http://uk.rs-online.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for resistors, diodes etc
http://www.bluebellaudio.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; never used them but worth mentioning

EU:
http://www.tonehenge.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; used them for MM transformers
http://www.tube-town.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; used them for general things
http://www.uraltone.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; used them once for PTFE wire, tube sockets/plugs and plexi 6V light
http://www.banzaimusic.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; never used them but it seems they have a lot of components
http://jukebox-revival.eu/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; never used them but it seems they have a lot of components
http://www.brownsound.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; never bought from him but it seems he has lots of nice chassis
http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; not used them so far
http://www.inmadout.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for transformers, but I've never bought from them so far

I think most things can be sourced from the UK/EU, with the exception of transformers (apart from MM). Unfortunately ClassicTone, Marstran, and Heyboer don't have distributors in the EU so these have to be imported from the US.

Hope that helps!

Hi

found this link very useful as I am just about to embark on a JTM45 build.

Unfortunately Tonehenge don't do transformers anymore but found these others :

http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/i ... rmrclassic" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.bluebellaudio.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Bluebelleaudio guys stocks Hammond transformers but I don't know what make livinginthepast ones are, other than it says made in Britain.

If anybody else has any info on the above or other sources it would be greatly appreciated!

I can recommend Uraltone:
http://www.uraltone.com/?___store=engli ... tore=suomi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's a Finnish shop. I've got great service from there plenty of times. Becasue I live in Finland, it's the place I look at first.
