Re: 1000pf caps
Not sure off the top of my head, but I have a few 1000pF RS silver mica caps from the 70s if you want one or two - PM me.hdahs wrote:Does anyone make a silver mica 1000pf, cap or is everybody using ceramic disc, as they are plentiful?

Generally speaking, in larger values, silver micas are pretty expensive (and physically large). I've got some 10,000pF RS micas (0.01uF) which I'm gonna try as coupling caps off the first gain stage one day to see how they sound (just gonna parallel two for 0.022uF). Would imagine they will be very clear in the top end, maybe even 'chimey' - not as gritty and aggressive as polyester caps (thats not a diss btw, I love the 'spit' that some caps have, it's very much trademark Marshall).

Actually, here's three old Lemco ones on ebay starting at £0.99

And also ten coated micas that look like the modern CDE ones for £6.00
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Vintage-R ... 023wt_1396" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not as expensive as I remember - I recall buying a 4700pF mica to play around with and it cost me £5.00 for the one of them.
