Would you get the JTM-45/100 w/ the Hendrix Mod?
Simple question.
I have played the Marshall version w/ said mod and was digging it.
I have had the Germino proto Monterey-100 and found it a bit too flat response (although he now offers the mod as well)
Metro's flagship has my interest since it's introduction....was just wondering about people's opinions on making it a tad brighter.

I wouldn't do it. I prefer original specs, but with a little less bass in the sub guitar tones (below 82hz). This will make the bass less muddy.
Bright sounding preamp tubes can help in a jtm. and try a treble boost in the normal channel

perhaps the extra filtering is a good idea, but changing the tone stack is a bit too much IMO

George's JTM 45/100 is the Hendrix amp, it is perfect for that, as the basic tone it's all there.

A tone stack with a 33K slope resistor and 500pF treble cap, instead of the 56K slope resistor with a 250pF treble cap; and an extra stage of filtering in the preamp (which was probably a late transition in the amp's circuit as opposed to a mod.)charvel pointy head wrote:hendrix mod?

Yeah the mod is the tone stack value change and its simple enough to do. If you want to try it it only requires you to use some jumper cables and clip in parallel an 82k resistor with the stock slope and another 250p cap with the treble cap. Thats it. If you dont like it, unclip it and put the amp back in the case. If you like it swap out those 2 values and do the same.
If you liked the marshall and thought the germ was flat I really doubt it was because of that. It changes the tone but not to that degree. Its just a small personal preference. I dont necessarily think of it as making the amp brighter either. The larger treble cap doesnt add any highs the stock cap doesnt. It adds mids tho. Upping that value is a mid boost switch in many amps. And the slope would boosts mids and some lows too. You may get more rumble out of the amp but not more brightness. Mostly just a mid boost.

try bright tubes with a bit of gain and output (anode current). for instance siemens.
