I should have looked carefully at the other pics...

Steps 15 & 16

Post by JimiJames » Tue Aug 09, 2011 11:57 pm

Well, that knob was supposed to remotely control the thermastat to the fridge but, I was having problems installing the firmware. The manual said to upgrade the software berfore I do that... It was getting to be to much PITA anyway so I just picked up a newer model that had BlueTooth technology cuz ya' know I like my beers cold ! Aye don't be surprised ? I've got it Wifi 'd to the chip on the label to that makes the letters turn blue so I know they're ice cold :P
uhh y e a h... and the colder the beer the more I drink and things happen. ehh I start to see colors...

I tac welded everything on the board deciding on what I want to start off with until more parts (resistors) come in the mail.
More change ups for sure... I'll get it so where atleast I can fire it up and get readings/voltages where they belong.
Then.... more changes... and even more changes and possibly then make my Loop & MV connections...

gettin' closer...

That resistor is huge...

What kind, or brand of cap is that?

The resistor is a 2W Ohmite 2.7k +/- 10% registering .294 or 2.9. It's the right value and the only 2.7K CC I have on hand and should work for now.
As for the cap; it's an ITW .68 200v (in Fenders, IDK?). I have the Mustard's but, have these on hand as well that I wanted to try instead of the Mustard's that are rated @ 160v. I'll see when I get there...T h e n the tweaking madness begins...

Blowing fuses ?

Post by JimiJames » Fri Aug 19, 2011 2:57 am

Aye guys, hit a little snag. Blowing fuses.
Need an extra pair of eyes or two. I don't see anything with my limited knowledge and was hoping the experts can sniper the culprit.
I caught one bonehead move with the lamp. I installed it as per instructions but, forgot I was using a 6v. Everything else looks good to me. I documented all of the parts/values so I thought I had things covered there. I don't think there's a problem with the OHMITE 2watt 2.7k. Other than that, IDK ? So there is no lamp, temporarily.
I checked under the board referencing pic's and that also looked good.
I fully soldered the connections (no tac weld)

I put in 1A SB fuse flipped the Mains Power switch on and it stayed on (I could hear the PT) and was able to get a reading off the heaters. @ 3.41v. Preamp tubes lit up nicely. Those are the only pins that read on all tubes. Got the bias reading too @ -35 trim pot up all the way. That's it. I cannot get any other readings... :what: Fuse eventually blew turning on the stand-by.
The Loop & MV are mounted they're not connected. I have temp wires that will be removed for install.
Dual voltage switch wiring perhaps?
Please let me know what info is needed to troubleshoot & I will supply.
Thanks !

(Temp wires in place to get readings. pre Loop & MV connections)

Found a pin missing off one of the preamp tubes. After taking a hammer to it, I replaced it and stopped blowing fuses.
Now, with the Power switch on I still can only get just the heaters to register (with or without pre's installed)
I hear the PT humming. Not sure on the OT ?

Very nice! Not to toot my own horn, but it looks cleaner than my build. Great job. :)
