68 12xxx Series 100 watt question

Post by sands » Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:02 pm

I've looked all over for the 12 series instructions and can't find them. In an effort to avoid doing things twice, I thought I'd ask these questions...

1. Can I follow the 100 watt instructions for wiring the entire chassis or are there deviations.
2. Does anyone know where I can find step by step instructions for this build?

I just finished the 50 watt and it was a breeze because of the great instructions. Would like to make this as easy on my tired brain as possible. :-)

Thanks for all your help guys!

I'm not aware of any 12xxx directions, but what I'm not aware of could fill an ocean.

There are a number of small deviations between the 12 series and 100 watt kit which is based on a 1969 model, most of which are very minor in terms of understanding how to put the amp together. My first ever amp build was the 100 watt kit, my second a 12 series and I simply used the 12 series layout available over in the layouts forum (or wiki), information from the step-by-step and the forum to get it done. I'd say if you built the 50 watt kit, you can probably figure out a 12 series 100 watt with no problems.

There are some component value differences (and options) which are covered in the layout. Some physical differences like a laydown vs. standup power transformer, cap board vs. cans, etc., different arrangement of the rectifier, but I really think you can take what you learned from the 50 watt build and put together just about any plexi as long as you take your time and ask questions.

Good luck with the build! My 12 series is one of my favorite amps.

Riscchip, Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm happy to hear you love the 12 series. I love every clip I've heard with it and can't see how I won't love that thing. We're all lucky for this place (Metroamp), George and of course all the others here who make it what it is, it really is a great community!

I'll be starting in on it tomorrow. :-) :-)
