Metro amp effects loop question

Hey guys....

I know that the Metro Amp loop kit comes equipped
an "on/off" bypass switch. Can this be done wtih a foot switch as well?

Yes it could be foot switched, but you'd ideally want to add a relay or such to actually do the actual switching rather than run the signals out long cable runs to a stomp switch somewhere. So you'd basically replace the bypass switch with a relay, add a relay power supply and switching setup in the amp. So a pretty major pain to do. Also since it is a true bypass loop, and most will use time based effects such as delays in the loop, the delay would be cut off immediately when switched, something many might not care for.

Any way I did prototype up a switching version, but ultimately decided on the more simple version as I figured stepping on the pedals themselves, or just adding a bypass in the loop chain itself worked just as well. Also the added switching made the board larger, too large for the 45 and 50 watters.

So I'd recommend a simple bypass inside the loop chain if an instant bypass is needed. Much easier, and no real difference in doing that compared to bypassing the whole loop itself for most.

Just for reference, here's a prototype of the foot switch loop, can see it's much longer to accommodate the switching section (this one could also power V1 on DC heaters):

Here' s my dilema...Currently have a 100w plexi build that I just love. I want to build a 50w because I enjoyed the 100w build so much. I thought that it might be fun to be a little more "experimental" with the 50w build. Thus the loop. I enjoy usuing stomp boxes. Mostly vintage. I do alot of lead work and am looking for a good way to add some modulation effects when needed without adding that matallic/robotic twang you seem to get when using time based or modulation in front of the amp. A good loop could provide that option. Without an on/off loop foot switch though, I would have to go back to the amp to switch. I am already running 25 ft of signal cable from the amp to my effects and then 25 ft back. I use an analog grouping device so that I am not tap dancing. I could run another 25 ft cable from send to a delay etc.. but that would result in another 50ft of cable total when you ad in the return....So as you con see a simple foot operated on/off switch would be ideal for me.

I think what SDM is saying is that you don't have to have the loop bypass built into the amp. You can have it at the amp remotely operated or on your pedal board which ever is more convenient. You can have it before say a delay which means when you cut it off the delay wont cut off immediately or after everything so it does. It is basically a looper for the loop;)

What would you use as the looper and the remote switch?
