Is this the tone??

Post by Bleedthefreak » Sun Aug 09, 2009 3:29 am

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and was looking for some feedback. I purchased the standard 100 watt plexi parts kit but went with the 68 filtering cap setup and mercury magnetics corporation trannies. some of my favorite players of the day are: EVH, Lynch, Jake e lee, Warren demartini, Frank Hannon, Angus, Audely Freed, Warren haynes to mention a few. Will this get me close? Thanks guys

Heheheh, only if your hands are close.

Seriously, more tone is in the hands then most people will admit.

Amp wise, yes, that amp (depending which way you tweak it) will be generally what your heroes used.

Yup, totally aware that you have to have talent to play like these amazing players, however, I really believe a more open less compressed sound is the direction I would like to go. I've been playing through more of the typical high gain amps (triple rec, XTC, Soldano) and it's getting to be old hat. I so dig that sound you get from driving the power section rather than getting overwhelming amount from the preamp i.e. 5150. Plus it makes you clean up your technique.

I like the tone that rockstah is getting from his setup. Very nice!! :D

X2 on cleaning up your technique!!! I remember when I first played through a cranked Metro kit after playing through pedals for so many years, and instead of masking shit, overdriven tubes tend to AMPLIFY everything. That and your 2 hands have much more influence over your tone with an overdriven amp than on a set of pedals, modeling amps, etc etc.
