Sozo caps for mains filters question

Post by jesone » Sat Aug 29, 2009 10:51 am

I have built a 68 style superlead and I have 2 50+50uf F&T caps in series as mains filters. Each can is using both sides so is effectively 100uf, right? Wired in series I believe this to be 100uf total.
Therefore I think I can replace each 50+50uf F&T cap with a 100uf Royal 67 wired exactly as the F&T's were and I would still have the 100uf total. Do I have that right?

sounds right but you have a total of 50uf now. the two royal 67s in series will also give you a total of 50uf

Yes, caps are the opposite of resistors in series and parallel circuits.

With caps, when in parallel you add the two values and when in series, if both caps are the same value, you have half of the 100uf value or 50uf total.

Don't let that smoke out!
