50w Build Complete Pics

Post by gutpile » Sun Nov 25, 2007 6:46 pm

Here are some pics of my latest build! I love the sound of this amp and it is hardly broke in! Thanks to all that chimed in and helped... and hats off to George for going the extra mile on the instructions. You will not find a more comprehensive and detailed set of instructions out there!

Thanks,
Mike

Nice job, looks great! 8)

What value of bright cap did you go with on vol 1? I started with 250pf, changed to 100pf, and now I'm thinking of trying it with none.

thanks for the comments.... lessons learned on the last two (100w & JTM45) I started out with the stock 500pf and settled on a 100pf... this time I started with a 100pf and it was right on for my tastes... I only have about an hour of playing on it so things may change as it settles in, but right now the 100pf is perfect for my ears...

hey Jerry! what mod did you do? I have not had the greatest luck in trying to record... I have a Boss BR1180cd with a shure SM57, I can't seem to dial in the input levels to get the sound I am hearing live? sounds muffled... I have posted some clips in the past using my digital camera but you know how those sound... I hate to post sound clips and not do the amp justice! Maybe we'll be seeing you @ NAMM in January?

mod

Intrigued with the Cameron high gain tones I started experimenting with the Jose master and diode mod. I made a few changes from the schem that is cruising around, the one that says jose modded 2203, added a push pull gain pot. its pretty cool. you can get high gain flavors without the added noise. The diodes cut off some of the headroom and volume so its very cool. To use it or not is just a push-pull away. I want my amps to have as many pro sounds as possible. If you have a MV amp pm me and Ill give you some info to try out.

by the way my presence pot is causing a lot of hum unless its all the way up full, hum goes away. what do you think that could be. Bad pot?

have you tried the "chopstick" method on the NF (purple) wire? I remember reading somewhere that the location of that can be crucial to noise. I made sure that mine ran below all ot the other wires on the board. I don't know whether or not this was necessary but I have absolutely no noise anywhere. I probably just got lucky! This is the first build that I have not had to chase ghosts or other noises!! I think the more I practice the luckier I get  Someone else smarter than me may be able to help you out more...

I have sheilded wire on that one. None of my other amps are a problem there. I just ordered some more 25k 's Im going that route. less risk of noise than a 5k set up. maybe I just have a bad pot. Peice of metal inside or something.
