Your pic is too small to tell what you did with the diodes....spill yer guts......

I was expecting a small turret strip on the PT mounting bolts from your earlier comment, so they would have a solid junction point off the PT.

You were right, but why didn't you think I was logged in?

Because like you, I'm dreaming of building a 50 watter. Reality and common sense have left me for the time being.

George...

Did you put the diodes right off the high voltage taps like I've seen on some early models or a rectifier bridge tucked under the board?
The pic is really small and I cant see what you have done

Inquiring minds need to know!

I did hang them off the transformer, then shrink tubed over them. It doesn't look vintage at all. I need to find a better solution. Something more pleasing to look at and more accurate to originals.

No, if you wanted it to look vintage you'd just hang them out there uninsulated for all to short.

How about this design (minus the filter cap 'wings')?

You could use the metal diodes as two pairs with central snubber cap.

That is what I am going to do on mine, should look quite marshally without the horrible dangling diodes (heatshrink is an improvement).

Hey George

I just got your 50W chassis and board. I emailed you about there being nowhere to put diodes but I see what's going on now.

Which circuit have you built? Which filtering are you using? I'm a bit confused because you have split cathodes but a filter on the board - did they make them like that?

But most of all - how does she sound??

I can't tell from the pics, George. Did you use SPST switches? I am still trying to get a grasp on the rectifier diodes and where to put them. If I follow Billy's Layout then I would wire the trans to the switches and then the diodes off of the switches. But your picture has the diodes coming off of the PT but then where do they go?

You can see on Alex's amp on another thread that the diodes come directly off the PT HT and then join together to hook up to the nose of the HT fuse. This is also hooked up one wire to the carling SPST standby switch the other terminal is connectedf to the filter caps in the power supply line (probably a dual 32uF in series with itself and then on to the tie point with choke and the centre tap of the OT primary).

After that it is pretty stock 2986/1987

Look at the layout on Magadens site of the JTM50 and the JTM45/1986 schematics on the Marstran site.
