Now that I think of it, I didn't buy it as a "financial Investment"....so I'm gonna have to give him the go - ahead to replace some things.

That is my take too. If it is original and works well leave it alone. If it does not sound right or is unreliable fixit and play it

I prefer the rolled lip as sometimes the soft plexiglass panels will slightly buckle or get wavy when the nuts for the controls are tightened. The rolled lip keeps the panel straight when the amp is installed in the box.
