Of course, price range depends on age, condition, originality, provenance, etc. I'm no
George Gruhn, believe me. But it seems these go between $2k and $3k regularly. Sometimes you'll see one get up near $10k on ebay, but it's pretty rare. If hers is an especially good, old example, it could fetch a premium. There's a guy with one online now asking $14k, but he won't get a buyer at all. But here's some context for you:
Also check ebay completed listings for a sense of retail value.
If a Gretsch has some really cool provenance, however, it can increase in value dramatically. Here's the most obvious example, and probably the highest priced Gretsch on the open market today:
That's a '57 White Penguin once owned and played by Dan Fogelberg. George Gruhn wants $80,000 for it and let's just say it's been listed in his inventory for a long time...

I'll probably see him tomorrow morning at a guitar event, so I'll ask him if he has had any serious inquiries.
But as a whole Gretsch values don't increase at the same pace as a Gibson or Fender, unfortunately.

Of course, I'm not in the loop on any Beatle memorabilia auctions at Sotheby's or Christie's...

I'd say it's worth $500.
I'll send you a check right away.
Just kidding! That's funny my wife was just telling me yesterday she wants to get a Gretsch White Falcon someday.

Sell it to Setzer!
Really? A genuine '57 is only good for $2-3K? That's what a new one costs.

Well, like I said it could fetch a premium for being that old. Maybe with a '57 it's like the difference between a '61 SG and a '67 SG ($30k difference sometimes). You can see them get in the $10k range. And I'm certainly no appraiser, that's for sure. I just watch the prices. The rare models tend to fetch more than the 6120 single cut. But you can go get a '60's gretsch 6120 for $2,500 pretty consistently -- yes, just like a new one. In fact, I own a new one (double cut) and often see vintage ones from the '60's for the same price I paid.

Per the '07 Vintage Guitar
'54-56 $9K-$15K
'57-'59 $$7K-$13K
'60 $6.5K - 7K
'61 $6K - 6.K
'61-'64 $3.5K - $4K
Setzer Sig
'93-'05 $1800 - $1950

Great - check out Gruhn's site for info about getting an appraisal from him. He's widely aclaimed as the world's foremost expert on the subject of vintage guitars. A few brokers sometimes say otherwise because George debunks their scams. I spoke with him this morning and he saved me $10k in about 5 minutes.
Try to avoid selling to most brokers! I'd sell to George, but not many others. I saw all kinds of weird stuff this morning talking to a bunch of used guitar dealers. Let's just say that used car salesmen are like Mother Theresa compared to these guys. But watch the prices they are selling at, because it helps you get a sense for what the market can bear.
