some of the new tokais kills too!
I'm convinced that my tokai sg155 is a better guitar than most gibson SGs I've tried, including a 1969 sg and a new custom shop sg RI, but excluding a beat up 1963-64 SG junior.

Hi, I'm not sure about the Tokai stuff after the mid 80's 'cause I havent played any of them, but the the early to mid 80's stuff is some of the best ever. The strat's that they put out during and after the Fender Lawsuit era were as good as origional 50's Fender's. The more noticable feature's like the body , correct shape neck, great origional style pick-up's and finnish were all there along with what I consider to be the most important part of the Tokai strats The bridge. They are slightly different in metal composition or something. they are heavier than fender's reissue bridges. I swear that you can get the biggest most dynamic strat sound out of these bridges. I have put them on other guitars and they make them sound "magical". They dont do so well with humbucker's though. they tend to make the humbucker have to much bottom end headroom. They sound (Early to mid 80's) so much like SRV that it's scary. I have seen picture's of him using them and would bet that the block on many of his strat's was a Tokai.

Absolutely, in the early '80s SRV endorsed Tokai. I believe he was even on the cover of one of their early '80s catalogs. Hands down the Tokai guitars from the late '70s to early '80s were better than the Gibson and Fender guitars being made in the same era. Funny thing is Gibson and Fender knew it but instead of fixing their BS they filed a lawsuit.

I have an old 70's Tokai Goldtop and putted a SD Antique in the bridge position...awesome guitar & sound. Sounds just as good as my main Gibson Les Paul...
