Really...all along I thought it was a strat trem issue. I have a recording somewhere of my guitar doing "it". An irritating overtone predominantly on the G string up and down the neck. I just read a whole bunch about the plain "G" being a problem and a lot of guys solved it going to a wound G. I'm gonna give that a shot. It seems to be much more prominent on Gibson scale instruments.
