I'm thinking about it. I have a really nice ATA case. Just concerned about gate checking it. Not sure if the extreme cold will be an issue.
What is your experience with this?

Me???? nada...I've never had the luxury to fly to any gig!! Remember Rockstah had a nasty run in with American was it?
Maybe it's too much a risk to bring out just for the show, G?
It's prob safer to ship it direct if you had to.
You can always keep it at my house....

LOL I know you would take great care of it. Just remember to put up your tail gate!
Actually shipping is a good option. Would save me lots of trouble at the airport. Here's the case I have:

FEDEX 2day would probably be as safe as carrying it on the flight myself.

I know, sorry. Low blow.
Maybe shipping the Yaron to your house will make up for it.

Wow, just saw this. This looks like what I've been looking for my whole life, seeing as how I'll never get a real 59.
George, if you're around I have a few questions.
1. I have a 1994 LP Standard with SD Pearly Gates in the neck and bridge. Everything you described is what I would like to change with this current setup. Have you ever tried SD PG's?
2. What are your PBMT settings on the amp?
3. What are you using for 0.68µFcap? I see that Sozo doesn't offer that one in Next Gen yet.
4. Did you pot the pickups or did Throbak?
Thanks,
Darrin

Hey Darrin, I have had a Pearly Gates bridge pickup for years. It's been in several guitars. Very cool, but different than these, hotter more mid focused.
My typical settings are: middle 10, treble around 5, bass according to speakers and presence around 4 according to room and speakers.
Usually use the standard Sozo .68uf. Even over the Sozo Vintage.
Throbak very lightly potted them. Just enough to prevent squeal when I stand in front of a 100W.

Thanks George. I can't get a match between the neck and bridge with the PG set. Neck is always too muddy. The bridge is pretty bright too, so as soon as I adjust to compensate for the neck, the bridge turns into an ice pick.
Sounds like these Throbaks may be for me. I've always wondered how "close" the SD Pearly Gates were to the Rev's guitar. Sounds like the Throbaks are the real deal.
I know you raved about the neck, do you feel as strongly about the bridge pickup in that MT set? I'll have to give Jon a shout, it's ZZtop's first album, that's what I'm after. I'm sure he'll point me in the right direction.

Do contact Jon, he can point you in the right direction. This set gets my highest approval, whatever that is worth.
The neck to bridge tonal balance is main test for humbucker sets and most do not pass. Every time I switch I feel like reaching for the amp knobs to dial something in or out. The MT102 passes with flying colors.

New MT102 set in my ES355 along with a mojo 50's wiring harness, reissue kluson wafflebacks, and tone pros light weight tailpiece. It's a totally different guitar!!! It had no personality stock. I was feeling like it was an expensive mistake. Now it's a keeper!!

Awesome! Glad you dig those pickups!
My Yaron hung very well with the real '60 burst "Sandy". I was pleased. Prolly as close to a real one as I will ever have.

Hey George, in that clip how far up did you get the volume on the amp, did you ever get it to 10?

Hi George,
I bought a set of these and wonder about the braided wire length. Did you - or do you usually - shorten the wire or leave it as it is?
Cheers, Danny.
