Can it be done?

I posted this over at the S.D. forum. I'd like your input as well,

Has anybody tried taking a rail pick up and taking out the ceramic magnet and replacing it with an alnico? IMO, I think the rails sound great but, the top is just a bit harsh. I would like to try an alnico in one. But, I wonder why it hasn't been done already. What do you think?

If the magnets are the same size I say why not.
