Picked up a toy

Post by 77custom » Sat Dec 02, 2006 5:33 am

Not really much of nothing, but for $99 shipped I'm having MF send me a squire '51. Figure I can hod rod it and give it to my nephew when I tire of it!! Something about the look just intrigued me. Read some good reviews, so what the hell right!!

Is that the one that looks like a cross between a Strat and an original P-Bass pickguard/headstock? I always thought that those looked pretty cool!!!

Damm, the cat's out of the bag! Ordered mine yesterday, what a great deal, perfect to practice or even to sharpen your Luthier skills on. Got mine to 2-tone sunburst.

That's the one I ordered yesterday. I saw a sunburst on the Fender Forum without the pickguard and it looked great. Then I saw a black on black and it to looked awesome. So, I figured what the heck, Merry Christmas to me!!!! I also saw one with a lipstick rhythm pick up, it looked sharp. Cool thing about them is they are solid basswood bodies, not the laminated stuff. (I doubt if they are one piece, probably 2 or 3) Now I'm on my way to the Youngstown GC to check out a R8 for cheap!!!!

The GC in San Antonio has an 2003 R9 with a Brazillian RW board and a quilt top, it has a small ding by the pickup selector but it's small and they have it discounted quite a bit if your interested, and Oh Yea, it sounds awsome!

Thanks, It's not for me. My buddy was going to buy it, but he picked a FMT standard instead. This R8 was a dog :x :x alot of dead spots, no sustain, the strings were just put on. high action and some buzz to boot. These things are selling for $3300, there is NO WAY it was worth that let alone the $1680 they were asking for it. The Les in Les Paul on the head stock was gone all you could see was the outline of where it used to be. This was a 2005 BTW. There must be a good reason nobody bought this thing yet. I just hope some young kid doesn't think he's getting a deal when he goes in and buys it!!!

I'm getting a Warmoth Replacement Strat Body, and at first I'm gonna use a Squire neck to practice what I'm learning in my Dan Erlewine books, but I need some tools if I'm gonna change the NUT, and the Fret wire, and Change the Radius to 15.

Then hopefully when I order my 15" Raduis, 6105 Dunlop, Baseball Bat Back with 1 11/16 Grapite nut, I'll be able to do a great job.

I'm still up in the air on the back cut, and if I'm gonna use Graphite for the nut.

I was going to use brass, but I read where it was bright.
So its either going to be Graphite or Bone.

I have to say: Man I'm still liking this cheap guitar!!! I played it again all night last night. Used the Les Paul for the GnR stuff then went back to the Squier. Huh......who would have thunk it???
