Hi All,
I have a Fender American Deluxe Ash Strat that have these Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups that are said to be one of Fender's best single coils ever.
Not being a single coil user very long I was wondering how they were received among the forum users who do have these in their Fender Deluxes. They are reportedly a proprietary pickup and not an aftermarket product.
My opinion is just that they are a decent pickup but then again I have nothing to compare these to for a reference. In overdrive mode with my Metro JTM 45 they are a little raspy on the top end but in low overdrive/clean settings they have a very clear, nice tone.
Anybody who has an opinion on their favourite single coil for a Strat please share your experiences.
One more note: Check out the Canadian bands Chilliwack and Headpins and their guitartist Brian "Too Loud" Macleod. Now long gone, Brian was a tone meister and used a replacement pickup in his old 60's Strat. He reportedly used that and a MusicMan 60 watt combo for recording and live work.
Brian has got to have one of the best Strat sounds ever for rock. On songs like Breakin' Down from Headpins, and My Girl (Gone Gone Gone) from Chilliwack, etc., he has a beautiful, hard rock sound. If I could get my Strat anywhere this tonewise, I'd probably not play my Les Paul as often as I do for blues and rock.

No need to replace those Jems.
They even fooled the purist in a side-by-side comparison.
If you can get your hands on a Fender Frontline Magazine. It will explain how they went through the R&D team at Fender
taking readings off of some choice 50's pickups and voicing them with a little computer analysis help and a final product
of a Noise cancelling single coil pickup.(stacked humbucker soundz out of line here...)
They are not for After market sale by Fender but they can be had on fleaBay here... http://stores.ebay.com/The-STRATosphere
I highly recomend these pickups especially if you are one of those purists and are fed up with the 60 cycle hum...
(One thing I can't remember if Bill Lawrence added his Midas touch to them...)
