Re: One of the most outrageous things on ebay
Welllll... its the old "supply and demand" law at work. If someone had a '52 Tele with a replaced guard, the price is not as outrageous as it seems at first glance. Originality is EVERYTHING as far as value on a vintage instrument... look at how hacked this guitar is, and its 15k, obo.
AND, the guard happens to be hacked as well!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-FENDER-TEL ... 2ebb8f5814" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Bottom line is, how many opportunities will a person have to get a '52 Tele guard if they need/want one?? If a player has a '52 Tele with everything there BUT the guard, its either a sellers market, or the players gonna go on wishing someone hadnt swapped or hacked the original guard.
I have an old LP, that does NOT have the original case, but everything else is pretty much there. Im not gonna shell out prices like this just for a case, cause its close to what I paid for the guitar at the time, but if I wanna get it closer to original???

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1959-GIBSON-LES ... 19ce048ade" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Where else am I gonna get something like this?? They're just not for sale in every corner guitar store.
If VINTAGE parts and guitar prices seem outrageous, think about the 25k Fender Frankenstein...
Some guys go the FULL jackass route, like this douche... AND he's got 3 bids at this point:

Quote: "It has a pro refret, headstock repair, and binding repair. It is also missing the SN# due to an old bad repair that was done poorly to the headstock, and the case was once spray painted and that has been removed".
Its certainly not the best LP I've ever seen from a finish/flame standpoint, it has issues that would make most players walk away from less rare guitars, and the dude STILL wants 130k, obo, and has 33 offers at this point!!
If there were NO issues with this axe, you could easily add 50k to the tag. Would he get it?? Find someone with that kinda scratch that really wants it, and he just might.
Even in a shitty economy, items like this are gonna sell for a LOT, and 20 years from now?? Hoo-fah.
Supply goes down, demand (and price) go up... ECO 101.

I somehow think he sold his dignity for that 18 cents, and I believe that by now the 'winners' have already got buyers remorse.fillmore nyc wrote:Some guys go the FULL jackass route, like this douche... AND he's got 3 bids at this point:

Howzabout the J.Giels 1959 Burst he is selling because it is just hanging on the wall, broken headstock, tons of unoriginal stuff and a bargain at only $250K...

The issue of Guitar Player is completely 100% original!
Maybe not as outrageous as the OP, but ...
