Hi Everyone. I am looking into buying new PT/OT/choke...

Can I use this combo? A Heyboer PT ($120), a MM Axiom O100JM-SL ($225) with a MM 3.3H choke ($25)... totaling $370.

I have a 2203 JMP (1976) converted to 68 SL specs... will these work ok?

I have considered George's dual tap and Metro OT... the DT (400/500) isn't in the store that I see and George describes the MM as "The ultimate upgrade or replacement for vintage outputs".

Would I be better with a self lead or not? The only difference that I can tell is that the self lead is the same wire in the winding? A solid core? I assume these are both stand up and not laydown trannies, right?

Any thoughts on this?

You can use all those, and I can't tell the diference in tone from the regular MM to the Self Lead MM.

I acttually have an extra SL MM tranny that I installed, but the customer changed his mind and wants a ****** OT. It's never had power to it, but the leads were cut to fit one of George's Chassis. Should fit yours fine, if you're looking to save a little money.

I'll sell it for $170 plus shipping to anyone who's interested.

This price is absolutely fair and if the OT's wires are cut to fit into a Metro build, then it would fit into a 2203 as well.

The OT's all are stand up models! Only the PT's are available as stand up or lay down model.

The self lead MM doesn't sound much different to the type with the flying leads, although the overall sound with the SL-OT might appear a tad cleaner and smoother in the highs.

Mostly as a result of how much B+ voltage it supplies to your amp.

And that means what? Lower voltage = faster tube breakup?

SAG also is to be consider when choosing a PT......

Lower B+ will smooth out the tone in a very general way, highter B+ will give you tighter vibes in most ways, more hights, harsher maybe, it really depends, you have to try it, colors will vary........
