Hello all.
I'm building 2204-inspired 2*KT88 amp(with right PT, that can handle more current), and thinking about OT for it. There are two choices : go with JCM800 50W OT(40-18025, 3.2k) or use huge JTM45/100 OT(ClassicTone 40-18067, 4k).
Idle current will be 50-52mA per tube, impedance of both OT's is right, but I'm not shure about DC primary 's resistance of JTM45/100 OT(anybody know?) and frequensy response(mostly on highs - prefer open-sounding OT's, not dark\dull).
What ClassicTone trans. for 2*KT88/6550?

Also consider this Edcor OT: http://www.edcorusa.com/p/458/cxpp100-ms-4_2k
A member used one of these to build a KT88 x 2 JCM head recently and I've used one of these in a '70's Orange OR80 clone---solid OT.

I did this one several yrs ago--- i'm considering changing the PT to get @550V B+, with adequate current capacity, to push two KT88's to higher power levels than the current Twin Reverb-type PT and EL34 x 2 can generate................gldtp99

Thanks for reply!
After some web search, calculations and so, I decided on MC project style transformers, which are huge enought(and can handle big bottles current and power).
So, it will be 4* SED kt88 monster
Very powerful and loud project - but also very interesting to build.
With this power section i'll go with more preamp distortion(and no or much less PA distortion), more modern sound and splawn-like preamp design.

Good idea----- i've got two of these Classic Tone Project 100 watt OT's sitting here waiting for 100+ watt builds: http://www.classictone.net/40-18072.html
The Splawn-type circuit with plate driven tonestack is a good choice---i built up a 50 watter (lead channel only--gear 2/3) to see if i liked the circuit---it's a very good circuit, a few bands here have used it to record with--- lots of drive, great low end thump----- but most heavy players here have liked a 50 watt HG Jose i did over the Splawn---- more compression, more gain, and even more low end (w/Resonance)--- i used 18V and 20V zeners for the clipping circuit, switchable between the 18V and 20V------ just as an experiment to see how the circuit sounded-----in further builds I'll just use 18V and have it on all the time---- the Splawn circuit sounds somewhat closer to stock and keeps a modded-Marshall feel where the HG Jose is an all-out monster.
Have fun with your project------ build whatever sounds good to you !!!!!--- .....................gldtp99

Well, I chose this type of circuit, becouse don't like diode\zenner cipping at all, prefer less compressed sound. But after your comment I should try HG Jose
Once again, big thanks for replies.
