Which Classic Tone PT + OT + Choke ?

Post by PeterJ_22 » Mon Aug 08, 2011 4:15 am

Hi guys, im building a JTM45 head with ceriatone chassis / plates, and components from valvestorm.
Which Classic Tone PT / OT / Choke would you recommend for this project? Im basing the build off the ceriatone layout / values and would like to hopefully have transformers match the chassis with minimal redrilling etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers!

Hi PeterJ_22,

Yes....Roe has mentioned the proper original Drake part numbers but the ClassicTone numbers for these items are 40-18033 for the PT, 40-18039 for the OT and the 40-18058 for the choke (or the 40-18059 20Hy version as an option).

Our distributor, Triode Electronics offers these as a transformer bundle per the following link:

Thanks for your interest in our ClassicTone Transformers!

both should work fine. its a matter of taste. 3h will sound rawer, 20h cleaner

Which one would be closest to the original JTM45 spec though? Is the difference hugely noticeable?
I play mainly led zep / cream / acdc / etc classic rock+blues so leaning towards the 3hy?

I was going to go for the 3h since only the early jtm45s seemed to have the 20h

No idea which they use, the 3h would be more vintage correct though since the 20's would have been used with a rs style ot where as the mag com ot is based on the drake 103 ot which seems to be used ~65 on whith the 3h choke.
