Choke question

Would someone mind explaining to me how a choke can change the distortion characteristics of an amp?

I'm working on a 45/100 build. I was told that a 3H choke would give me a more distorted loose sound, and a 20H choke would be tighter and cleaner.

I thought chokes just got rid of hum?

The choke aids the filter caps in cleaning up the DC ripple for cleaner power. I have a 20H choke in my JTM45ri build, to tell the truth, i didn't notice a huge change from the 3H, but it did aid in cleaning up some ghosting issues. I prefer the tighter bass response.

also, the choke affects the screens voltage - something that also contributes to the sound
