choke AND screens filtering

Post by Roe » Wed Feb 10, 2010 6:54 am

screens filtering have often been discussed at this board. chokes are ocassionally also discussed but then typically without taking into acount filtering. Now, I want to start a tread dealing with both at the same time since these two together make up the filter circuit for the screens.

I find myself prefering 5h with 16uf on the screens (67 100w) and 3h with 50uf on the screens (69 100w). also, I like 3h and 16uf on my 45/100 (kt66s), this amp has less problems with ghosting than the 67 amp presumably because if uses kt66s/1202-84 instead of el34s/1202-119. in this case the 3h gives a warm dirty sound. with the 67 amp, 3h gave just a tad too much ghosting.

Some say they like 7h choke with a 12000 series. I guess this makes sense if you use 16uf on the screens. Personally I feel that 7h feels to stiff with 50uf. (****** even suggested a formula saying that 1H equals 12.5uf - suggesting that 3H/50uf equals 5H 25uf when it comes to filtering).

However, more gainy stuff tend may sound better with more henries. but the cleanish-crunchy plexi stuff sounds killer with 3H.
