i already have this posted in the "effects" section, but... one of you electro-wizards could solve this right off the top of your head. i need to isolate (if possible) a 9vdc power supply line to an effect pedal that has reverse polarity (fulltone soulbender 9vdc+ chassis) can i just run the power supply line to a small 1:1 isolation transformer like:

sorry, i'm winging it!

Re: isolation transformer question
How do you know that the FX pedal has a +9 Volt chassis?45auto wrote:i already have this posted in the "effects" section, but... one of you electro-wizards could solve this right off the top of your head. i need to isolate (if possible) a 9vdc power supply line to an effect pedal that has reverse polarity (fulltone soulbender 9vdc+ chassis) can i just run the power supply line to a small 1:1 isolation transformer like:

This doesn't sound right. The Chassis should be isolated from the battery (DC) supply.
You don't want an isolation transformer, they work only on AC or pulsed DC.
You could use a step - down transformer (Wall Wart) to bring down the 120 V.A.C. to 9 Volts, with a rectifier it would give you 9 V.D.C.,and use it to power your pedal.
Stay away from Radio Shark! Everything they have, especially power products, is way overpriced.

thanks for the reply. i'm trying to get all the pedals on a pedalboard with a common supply. this one fulltone pedal has opposite polarity & works with the supply until i connect the input or output patch cables to the other effects. it then shorts the whole board out. my whole objective was to get rid of the pile of wall warts. i really needed like the voodoo supply that has all independent supplies, but it was more than twice the price of the little "gator g-8" that i could afford. probably have to run that one pedal on a battery & remember to unplug the input patch everytime or take it off the board.

Isolation Transformer Question

A cheap power solution for all your effects. The outputs are AC, it's only a transformer. You still will have to rectify it (diodes or ,bridge rectifiers), and add capacitor filtering.
I can't believe that the DC power is connected to the FX unit's chassis.
It's possible, but this company would HAVE to know it was "Backwards" on the DC....
Are you positive that the Input/output jacks aren't wired for TRS plugs? (Tip, Ring, Sleeve).
If so, the Tip would ONLY be used for signal...The RING would be used for, I think, positive 9VDC. The Shield would be used for both shield and negative.
Check and see if there are 3 connectors on the in/out jacks...Shield or Ground, Ring, and Tip.
